That Place

(Jumeirah 2, DUBAI)

Restaurant Review

So, Last Saturday (i.e. yesterday). I was invited to a new menu launch and food tasting At ‘That Place’. As intriguing as the name sounds ( deserves a separate blog post just for the name). I arrived at the blogger’s event alongside some of the best taste- buds in the blogging world. We were very warmly greeted by Arpita the Head Chef come owner of the restaurant. Very enthusiastically she answered our quick-fire round of questions right from the unique name to her journey into the culinary world. From being an accounts and audit student to following her dream of studying the culinary arts ( encouraged by her sweet mother), Arpita enrolled in an esteemed institution in London and studied French cuisine and the tricks of the trade. She and her story are the ideal candidates for a TED Talk. Finally after a lot of teething problems, ‘That Place’ was born. A sweet petite restaurant in the heart of Dubai at Jumeirah. Arpita explained the new menu to us and painstakingly went through each dish to help us understand all the flavours ( though some yummy secrets remained unrevealed).

We started off with a round of drinks. Glasses of fresh watermelon juices, orange juices, cups of hot coffee and Lotus milkshakes graced the table. We were ready for the tasting to begin.

First to arrive were the starters

True American fritters ( made with mac and cheese)  4♦♦♦♦◊

Shawarma surprise ( filled with the yummy goodness of shawarma) 4♦♦♦♦◊

Freaky Fries, hand-cut fries with spring onions, cheddar, mozzarella, crispy onions, garlic, and ranch sauce ( a twist to the regular fries, with a topping of veg or mutton keema) 3♦♦♦◊◊

The Mains were the highlight of the menu. The unique presentation, the flavours and the concept floored us. Arpita explained that each dish was conceptualised inside a bun. So we had:

The Chicken Tikka Bun  4♦♦♦♦◊

The Vegetarian Bun  4♦♦♦♦◊

The Pasta Bun ( can be customised with any additional topping of your choice. We chose chicken tikka).  4♦♦♦♦◊

Burgers:

Chicken on Fire Burger  4♦♦♦♦◊

That Place Burger ( Beef) 3♦♦♦◊◊ ( pls note, I dont eat beef, this feedback was from my fellow bloggers who tried it)

The portion sizes were quite big and the presentation style was cool.

Finally came the deserts:

The Berry Frenzy ( A berry jam, topped with ice cream, candied walnuts and a sweet milk-based sauce) tasted like a tweak to the strawberry cheesecake). 4♦♦♦♦◊

The Chocolate Palace ( Choco- ganache, brownie, ice cream and a chocolate crumble).

Verdict: Located in the very prime Jumeirah, That Place promises to surprise and titillate.

Pricing: slightly on the higher side ( given the location and the effort its value for money).

Ambience: Simple decor, nothing much to rave about. But it does have a cosy home feeling.

Taste: A savoury and sweet taste-bud adventure.

Presentation: This is their USP.
